Fault phenomenon: A newly configured assembled computer is in normal use. However, in the motherboard BIOS, the CPU fan speed is reported as 0rpm (revolutions/minute), while the fan is actually running well.

Fault analysis: At present, ATX-based motherboards basically support fan speed monitoring. This allows us to know the CPU fan's operating status in a timely manner without opening the chassis. The fault phenomenon in this case is obviously because the BIOS cannot detect the CPU's operating information and reports it incorrectly. The reasons for the false alarm phenomenon are usually the following:

1. The power cord of the CPU fan is not plugged into the CPUFan (CPU fan) interface of the motherboard, but plugged into other fan interfaces. Although such plugging does not affect the normal operation of the computer, the BIOS cannot monitor the operation of the CPU fan.

2. The power cord of the CPU fan has poor contact with the corresponding interface on the motherboard. This situation is quite common.

3. The CPU fan used is a substandard product. Its motor has only two power lines and no speed measuring wire in the middle, so the fan speed information cannot be fed back to the BIOS.

4. The electrical performance indicators of the speed measuring wires of the motherboard and CPU fan of the machine are different. As a result, the BIOS cannot obtain the correct electrical information. However, this situation often leads to a large gap between the fan speed reported by the BIOS and the actual speed. Under the premise of confirming that the first and second situations do not exist, the reported speed will generally not be zero.

       Troubleshooting: After analysis, we have a general understanding of the cause of the false alarm, so we can solve the problem in a targeted way. After inspection, we found that the power cord of the CPU fan was plugged into the BAKFan (backup fan) interface. Plug it into the CPUFan interface correctly, and then monitor it in the BIOS, everything is normal.
